Trujillo, Peru

The Peruvian city of Trujillo holds many surprises. The main plaza is surrounded by very colourful colonial buildings. You can wander around the streets leading off the plaza and find beautifully restored colonial mansions from Spanish origin. There are many interesting little restaurants, mostly with offering a very cheap "menu del dia" or menu of the day. For around 2.50 USD you can get a starter (mostly delicious soup), a main meal of meat and veggies, a glass of juice, and a small desert! Of course you can go even cheaper and have an empanada or two (a small, very tasty meat pie) and juice for lunch and pay next to nothing. If you like dry, sunny weather, Trujillo is the place for you. It is surrounded by the northern Peruvian desert on all sides, and has a mild, sunny climate throughout the year. Trujillo is also known as "La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera" - or the city of eternal spring, although in winter the fog from the Pacific Ocean sometimes creeps in and hides the sun for a couple of days. |
